“My research focuses on how viral RNA structures and their interactomes shape disease processes, combining biochemical and biophysical approaches. Before joining the Kieft Lab in late 2025, I completed my doctoral research at Drexel University, where I investigated the structure–function relationships of long non-coding RNAs in cancer. Originally from South Korea, I am also a licensed veterinarian with a background in the diagnostic pathology of poultry infectious diseases. My broader curiosity reflects how biomolecules drive health and disease across species.”
Beyond the lab bench, Mihyun finds almost everything fascinating. Life feels endlessly fun, and her only complaint is never having enough time to enjoy it all. That’s why NYC life fits her perfectly. Her lifetime dream is to win the lottery (though she never buys tickets!), while her slightly less realistic dream is to debut as a novelist. For now, her grounded goals include exploring amazing stationery shops and having healthy, home-cooked meals.
