Lexi (Alexa) Schanzer

“I’m very excited to begin my scientific career in the Kieft lab and support future projects! I recently graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience. While completing my studies, I worked as a research assistant in the Lacreuse Lab with a primary focus on investigating sex differences in Alzheimer's disease utilizing RNAscope. I’m ready to grow as a researcher and expand my knowledge of viral RNAs in this position.”

Outside of the lab, Lexi enjoys all things music, nature, travel, and animal-related. She used to sing in a charity band and has been learning to play the guitar for the past few years (barre chords are brutal). She also spent a summer in Athens, Greece, volunteering at a dog shelter, where she made many furry friends whom she will remember for a lifetime!
